An interesting daytrip is the Vancouver Island circle route.
Drive west from here and Earl Cove is not far. A ferry takes you across Saltery Bay.
Then on to Powell River where you take a ferry across Georgia Strait to Comox on Vancouver Island. On the Island, you drive south along the coast to Nanaimo and on to Victoria.
You may sail to Vancouver from either city.
If you're rushed, take the ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay and from there it's 40 minutes to the highway heading for Sechelt, from the east.
If you got out of bed a bit earlier, you can take the ferry to Tsawwassen and, on your way to Horseshoe Bay enjoy the area south of Vancouver.
To take the longest route, you continue south from Nanaimo to Victoria and take the ferry from Schwartz Bay to Tsawwassen, then from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale and you're almost home again.
